After rain postponed the season opener at Legion Speedway last week the Sprint Cars of New England rolled into the Bear Ridge Speedway for the season opening event.
Will Hull and Matt Hoyt started on the front row for the feature by virtue of winning their respective heats. At the drop of the green Hull powered into the lead and Hoyt settled into a comfortable second. While the lead duo of Hull and Hoyt were distancing themselves from the field a torrid battle was waging farther back between Lacey Hanson and Troy Comeau as they ran side by side for third for a number of laps before Comeau claimed the spot after a mid race caution for a spinning Christine Boesch. The caution also allowed Jake Williams to move into contention and it wasn’t long after the green flew again before he moved to third and set his sights on the lead duo. Up front by this time there were only seven laps to go and Matt Hoyt started to pressure Will Hull for the lead, taking the top spot with five laps to go only to have Hull rocket back to the lead two laps later. His lead only lasted a single lap before Matt Hoyt reclaimed the top spot and ran to the win, beating Will Hull by a mere .35 seconds at the finish line. Jake Williams took third with Kevin Chaffee and Troy Comeau completing the top five.
Next up for the Sprint Cars of New England is a Memorial Day Weekend Doubleheader with Saturday night action May 26th at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT and Sunday evening, May 27th at The Devils Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT.
